In play-to-earn (P2E) games, maintaining fairness, balance, and economic sustainability is essential to ensuring a healthy gaming environment. Chain of Legends was designed with these principles in mind, allowing players to progress through strategic battles, troop management, and resource collection. However, an unintended loophole in the experience points (XP) system enabled players to exploit troops’ levels upgrading for excessive profit—a practice known as XP farming. While XP farming may seem legitimate in many traditional games, in the context of P2E, it often leads to exploitation of resources, devaluation of tokens, and an unbalanced economy. Additionally, it affects the game’s credibility by creating the image of an unstable and exploitable economy.

This issue arose due to the way XPs were distributed in Adventures. In Chain of Legends, players can send their troops on Adventures, such as Dungeon and Treasure Island, to battle for rewards. The intended mechanic worked as below:

✅ Winning battles grants players treasures (rewards).

✅ All participating troops gain XP, regardless of win or loss.

✅ Troops that accumulate enough XP will be upgraded to the next level automatically.

How XP Farming Became an Exploit

Savvy players identified a loophole that allowed them to misuse the XP system for financial gain. The process worked as follows:

Training or purchasing Level 1 troops, particularly high-value ones such as Captain Leroy, Catapult, etc.

Sending these Level 1 troops into multiple Adventures—typically 10 to 15 rounds—until they accumulated just enough XP to reach Level 2 in a short period.

Selling the newly upgraded Level 2 troops on the in-game marketplace. 

Reinvesting the earnings back into buying new Level 1 troops and repeating the entire cycle indefinitely.

By repeatedly cycling through this method, players could generate large amounts of CLEG (the game’s native token) without engaging in meaningful gameplay. Because they were enjoying 2 supplies of money generating; being rewarded in adventures and profiting from selling the newly upgraded Level 2 troops. 

This phenomena created a low-risk, high-reward strategy, where players were essentially printing money out of thin air through XP farming.

The Issue at Hand

This loophole disrupted the balance of Chain of Legends in several critical ways:

• Token Drain: Players withdrew significant amounts of tokens with minimal investment, depleting the economy.
• Economic Imbalance: Such activities devalue the in-game economy and disrupt token stability.
• Unfair Gameplay: Genuine players feel demotivated as the competition shifts from strategy and skill to exploitation.

Genuine players, who followed the natural progression system of the game, found themselves at a huge disadvantage against those who exploited XP farming. The game’s benefit system became imbalanced, shifting from skill-based play to exploitation of mechanics.

As this issue became widespread, it became clear that immediate action was needed to restore economic stability and fairness to Chain of Legends.

Addressing the Challenge

To tackle the rising issue of XP farming and its impact on the ecosystem, we conducted a vote to decide on necessary adjustments to the Troops XP System. This process allowed us to evaluate the community’s perspective while ensuring that the proposed changes are fair and effective.

The updated system is designed to maintain balance, protect the game’s economy, and create a more sustainable environment for all players. New players will also benefit from this update through Ember Rewards and Items, ensuring a welcoming and rewarding experience for everyone.

Proposed Changes

1. Troops XP Refinement
   
   • The XP system has been adjusted to align with the value and strategic importance of each troop. Higher-value troops now require proportionally more XP to level up, ensuring better balance across all levels of play. This adjustment not only reflects the strategic importance of troops but also preserves progress for existing players. For example, a Catapult at level 1 with 60/100 XP in the old system now adjusts to 240/400 XP, demonstrating how previous efforts are carried forward seamlessly.

1. Troops Burn System
   
   • Players now have the option to burn unused troops, clearing space in their barracks and earning Ember in return. The Ember earned is calculated as Troop Value (CLEG) ÷ 2, providing a transparent and balanced system for managing surplus troops. Additionally, upgrading troops in Barracks now rewards Ember, providing players with more resources to enhance their armies strategically. Ember can then be used in the Ember Shop to purchase exclusive items and new troops, helping preserve troop value while managing resources effectively.

DAO Vote 

The concern was announced during a YouTube livestream, with active participation from the community. The community’s involvement was integral to these changes. From November 10 to November 11, 2024, we conducted a DAO vote, ensuring transparency and inclusivity. The results:

• ✅  Troops XP System Update:
  • Chosen by 605 players (76% of the vote points).
• ❌  Old Troops XP System:
  • Chosen by 165 players (24% of the vote points).

Total Vote Points: 47,338

The overwhelming majority supported the updated XP system, highlighting the community’s desire for a balanced and sustainable ecosystem.

How the Arena Referral Event Works

To participate in the Arena Referral Event and claim rewards, follow these simple steps:

1. Invite New Friends: Share the Arena Friendly Mode link with friends (they must be new to the game). Once they join, you play together in Arena’s Friendly Mode.
2. Help Them Complete the Task: To qualify for rewards, your referred friend needs to train 1 Lyra in Barracks Level 7 before the event ends.
3. Claim Your Rewards: Once your friend completes the task, you’ll earn 20,000 Ember. You can refer up to 3 friends, meaning you can earn up to 60,000 Ember in total. This reward is separate from your regular referral rewards, so do not hesitate to invite more!

Stage 1: Lords Arena Battles (Public Matches)                               Duration: Sep 1^st – oct 1^st 

Everyone is welcome to the first round of this great competition. F2P mode of Arena battles are accessible to everyone and offer a chance to test everything before jumping into the game by investing which comes with possible occasional rewards. This opportunity is the perfect starting point for newcomers and a great way to test your skills. 

Everyone receives 5 free Energy daily, to spend them participating in Arena battles. Each Energy is an entry opportunity to 1 battle:

• By entering the F2P mode of Arena, you are given a wonderful chance to form a combination of your 10 favorite heroes with the maximum total worth of 100,000 CLEG and set the best strategic army combo as you believe. In this mode of adventure, although there is No need to spend money to build Barracks or use your ready-made Barracks and Heroes, every winner will received worthy rewards! 

• For those seeking greater rewards and a more challenging test of their prowess, we are offering another mode of Arena wich is called the P2E Mode, with awards of triple value for every victory, compared with the the previous mode’s prizes. Inside of the Arena Camp, every competitor deploy their own heroes and attached items (not exceeding the troop’s level) to claim victory in each battle.  Just like the previous mode, there’s a limit: the all 10 selected heroes can’t exceed a total cost of 100,000 CLEG. Do you dare to enter with your own heroes and reap the benefits? If so, equip your heroes with the awesome items (not exceeding the troop’s level) to step in the soil of battle.

There is definitely a Leaderboard representing the collected points that players achieved by joining the Arena battles. Now one question comes to mind: How to collect points? 

-Each victory rewards 2 points. 

-Each loss rewards 1 point.

The more you play, the more you win! Never feel disappointed when you are defeated. In any case, you are a winner by collecting points, even if you lose a battle! So go for beating your opponents, test your abilities, collect as many as points you can, and enjoy the endless Gems!

Stage 2: Legion Arena Battles (Group Stage Matches)                             Duration: oct 7^th – oct 14^th 

Who can join? Top 48 players from the stage 1 

Your collected points from the first stage are an entry ticket to the second leg. It’s time for individual prowess to shine as we enter a round of serious competition, a true test of skill and strategy! It means, there won’t be any Free Mode! Here you are only allowed to enter the P2E Mode with the same principles as the previous stage, to beat your opponents. The set rules will make you demonstrate your unique talents in wisely strategizing despite the limitations, and show everyone what you’re made of!

If you are still without Barracks and an invincible army, so seize the moment now! Strategize, build up your forces, and train your favorite troops to their fullest potential. Don’t overlook the power of items – they can significantly boost your every single of your heroes’ capabilities. 

The 48 participants will be divided into eight groups of six, each group, an arena of competition. Each fighter must navigate five battles within their group, striving for 3 victories to secure their place for the next stage. To be a winner in each battle of this round, a contestant must gain at least 2 victories from 3 encounters against his/her opponent. Therefore you have 1 battle every day of the duration between 10 to 14 UTC. Time scheduling of each will be managed via Discord; stay tuned on Discord!  

The probable key to battlefield dominance lies within the walls of your Barracks! Unlocking their full potential by upgrading it will empower your heroes, transforming them into a formidable army. Enjoy higher Bonus stats of your heroes by higher levels of your Barracks!

There is also a standard win/loss scoring system to determine group and individual standings and display the status of each fighter in each group. 

In round two of this fantastic contest, prepare to feel the adrenaline rush as your battle may be streamed live to a worldwide audience on YouTube and Twitch. Tens of viewers will be captivated by your every move, cheering you on to victory. Streaming of the battles will be done totally randomly.

Don’t be frightened; you and your opponents are not alone in the horror and difficult battles of this tournament. The 24 winners of “Group Stage Matches” will be divided into eight groups of 3; the groups will encounter each other this time, which means legions of 3 members for 3v3 battles. So say hello to your comrades, be in touch, and start planning to strategize your army together. 

Every contestant in a raid will enter the P2E Mode of Arena to deploy their own heroes and attached items (not exceeding the troop’s level) in the battles, and will choose a maximum of 10 troops not exceeding a total cost of 100,000 CLEG! Wow…that means each group of 3 is enjoying a set of army worth 300,000 CLEG with 30 powerful heroes! To be a winner in each battle, a group must gain at least 2 victories from 3 encounters against the other group. 

The world will be watching every single battle of this round unfold on this grand stage! The roar of the crowd will echo across continents as official streamers on YouTube and Twitch capture every moment of your epic struggle. Gather all your strength to show the global audience is watching you while you are conquering your opponents. 

By witnessing only 8 battles which would be scheduled in 3 days, the places of the 8 groups will be revealed. On the first day, 4 battles take place from 10 to 14 UTC: the tournament will narrow with four groups eliminated and four others rising to claim the top four positions. The second day will evidence a hard struggle for the third and fourth-place positions from 12 to 14 UTC. Then, in a breathtaking finale, the last day at the same time, the two remaining groups will face off in a battle that will determine the champion of champions.Time scheduling of each will be managed via Discord; stay tuned on Discord!

From Static Strategy to Dynamic Control

Gone are the days of passively observing your heroes clash in the traditional Chain of Legends battles (Dungeons & Treasure Islands). Arena Battles empower you to take the reins and command your heroes directly on the PvP battlefields. This dynamic shift allows for unprecedented control and tactical maneuvering, making each encounter a test of your strategic prowess. This Chain of Legends Arena guide walks you through everything you need to win in both Free and Monetized modes

Step into “Arena Battles”, the abyss of conflict, with the potential for loss and sacrifice. This new feature of the Chain of Legends offers many attractive options to enjoy a real game:

Battle Modes 

The Arena is a vibrant hub teeming with different battle modes, each offering a unique challenge and reward. At present, 2 battle modes are available: F2P Battle Mode and P2E Mode. 

F2P Battle Mode is the perfect starting point for newcomers and a great way to test your skills. This mode is accessible to everyone and offer a chance to test everything before jumping into the game by investing which comes with possible occasional rewards. 

P2E Mode is a profitable mode for those seeking greater rewards and a more challenging test of their prowess, with awards starting from 5 times more than the previous mode’s prizes for every victory. In this mode, every competitor deploy their own Barracks, heroes and attached items (not exceeding the troop’s level) to claim victory in each battle.

Easy 3 stages to the F2P mode; “How to Play” Guide

Before discovering all options, check out your “Energy” supply (placed on the top right side). Every almost 5 hours, you gain 1 “Energy”, a requirement to enter the battlefield. The “Energy” supply will get full after 24 hours: 5/5, not exceeding 5 Energy in the Free mode unless you would like to buy some Energy packs, more than the Energy supply’s capacity!

By clicking on “Fight” button; 2 battle modes will appear: Friendly Match / Find Match

Invite your friends to a “Friendly Match”, a chance to test your skills and strategies in a safe and engaging environment. While there are no rewards, you’ll gain valuable experience and learn to react faster, preparing you for the challenges of the Arena. Share the created link through the appeared box, make sure to reload the link at the same time with your friend, ready your troops, and let the battle begin!  Journey forth to the preparation and “How to fight” stages in the following.

Press the “Find Match” button powerfully (the next mode) and let the system find the best-suited opponent for you amongst all available ready players. Stage 1: Pick Your Troops

You are given a wonderful chance to form a combination of your 10 favorite heroes with the maximum total worth of 100,000 CLEG and set the best strategic army combo as you believe. But, the maximum number of Heroes to choose from is 10! Follow the following steps to pass this stage:

a: Select one troop on the “Character Selection” box, and its level. Then click on the “Add” button: 

b: The chosen troop appears in the “Army” box; if you would like to change your decision, you are able to remove your selected troop by tapping on the cross sign: 

c: Continue the above steps until you finish setting up your desired army and stay aware of the total cost of your selected troops, to not exceed 100,000 CLEG shown in the following pic:

d: The “Save the army” option enables you to not spend your time on repeating setting a desired army combo every time:

e: By clicking on “history”, you are navigated to the “Army History” box, a chance to choose an army from your previous combinations or the saved ones. On the “Recent” tab, you can look into your past army formations and the time of their use. Press “Equip” if you want to use it in your current fight. Luckily you never lose your favorite strategy in army selections by “Saving” them:

f: Tap/click the “Ready” button to announce the ready status to your selected opponent whenever you finished choosing your preferred Heroes carefully. Thereafter the button will transform into a green color, and you will wait till the fight starts. Edits are not allowed in this status unless you press “Not Ready” for making some changes again!

g: A very significant point that each player must care that they have only 2 minutes to pass the stage; a countdown timer is placed on the top of the page. When the time is over, the battle is started automatically with the last selected formation of your army.   

Remember! You are going to face other players with different levels of intelligence and strategy. So, each combo may work against a few players and fail against the rest. 

Stage 2: Enter the Arena

This is where everything looks almost the same with major differences. In the Arena, you are the one who should take the wheel and navigate your team toward victory by strategizing and acting quickly!  

The following features of the battlefield may surprise you:

a: A quick glance at the topmost of the battlefield, next to your photo or avatar, will tell you who you are fighting with and the spent time from the start of the battle: 

b: At the left bottom, you can see the set of your army. By selecting one of them, the information of the marked hero including the name, the picture, the level, the health number, the abilities as well as its attached items appear in a table, next to the set of the army. You will also discover a troop’s functions you are going to use while fighting, which means “Move”, “Attack”, and “Heal”, in the table. 

c: The following icons on the mentioned table, show the amount and type of buffs your hero is enjoying on the placed spot. Buffs are any effect that increases the specific abilities of your hero by other heroes of your army:

d: By clicking on the “Plus” sign at the left top side, you can send trash talks and emojis to your opponent:

e: Each player should take into consideration that a stable internet connection with a low Ping helps you to avoid lags and late responses to your commands while fighting online. Pings from 100 to 200 would be the ideal rate! You can check the status of the internet connection and the ping number at the bottom right:

f: The highlighted spots are your side whether you are on the right side of the field or the left side:

g: There’s also a “Surrender” option at the down-right side of the page which you can use whenever you feel unable to continue fighting:

3. Stage 3: Battle & Win

As soon as the battle starts, you should act quickly and set your Heroes on the battlefield based on your strategy. Now the significant question comes to mind: How to fight?

a: Every 10 seconds you can place 1 Hero on your side of the battlefield. You can simply click on your Hero, then click on the spot that you considered for it:

b: A cooldown has been set for placing the heroes on the battlefield. After placing the first hero, there is a 10-second waiting time before you can situate the next one:

c: Once you place your troop on one of the spots of the battlefield, you are able to do your desired functions: Move and Attack (or Heal):

• How to move? You can move your Hero by clicking/tapping on it (marked with blue) and then clicking n a white-highlighted spot, where you want it to go. 
• How to attack? Attack any opponent’s hero within its range by only clicking/tapping on It. Enemies within range get highlighted with a red glow.

d: The cooldown has also been set for all the functions, which means whenever you use one of the functions, you have to wait 10 seconds to be able to use that function again. The cooldown of functions is shown with a moving circle around the Movement or Attack icon of each hero. 

e: Mage is the only Hero who has 3 actions, the third is “Healing”! To use this ability, you can click/tap on her and then click on the injured ally Hero to do the Healing:

f: By clicking/tapping on your hero, besides the other info of the selected hero, you will find out the amount and type of buffs he/she is enjoying where he/she is standing, as shown in the following pic:

Do you own a Barracks with trained heroes?

• Not yet! There is nothing to be concerned about. Build up your Barracks, upgrade its level to enjoy higher stats reflecting in the troops, train your favorite heroes, and set up a strong army with your unique strategy in combination.

Preparation:

It is time to engage your own heroes equipped with privileged items in this adventurous journey. By clicking/tapping on the “Option” of each troop in your Barracks and selecting “Move to Arena Camp”, they can be easily transferred to the seats of live battles:

Repeat moving your strongest troops to Arena Camp till you ensure to own a bouncing army combo in the Camp. Meanwhile, take care of the Camp’s capacity limitation. Now let’s check your heroes are well-settled in Arena Camp: Tap the “Arena Battles” section, then click on “Camp”:

1. Arena Camp’s levels are defined by the sum of the 10 most expensive heroes that exist in it at the current time: 

• 0K – 100K = level 0
• 100K – 300K = level 1
• 300K – 900k = level 2

1. Higher levels, more capacity for placing more heroes:

• Level 0 = 10 Capacity 
• Level 1 = 15 Capacity
• Level 2 = 20 Capacity 

1. The Camp’s levels differ in supplying the amount of daily “Energy”: 

• Level 0 = supplying 5 Energy daily
• Level 1 = supplying 15 Energy daily
• Level 2 = supplying 45 Energy daily

Hint: It is significantly considerable that if you would like to buy some Energy packs, the daily Energy supplier does not work till the amount of Energy decreases than the capacity whose size depends on the Arena Camp level. In other words, as an example, if you own a Camp with level 0, the daily energy charger does not increase your Energy supply till it reaches 4! 

1. Higher levels, higher rewards! On the other hand, the entry costs to the battlefield depend on what level of Arena Camp you have:

• Level 0 = 1 Energy cost to step on the battlefield
• Level 1 = 3 Energy cost to step on the battlefield
• Level 2 = 9 Energy cost to step on the battlefield

1. If you may change your mind about attaching or switching the items, strengthening each through upgrading their levels, or bringing them back to the Barracks, grab this opportunity here by tapping the button “Option”:

1. The good news is that there is no healing feature for your heroes in their new home! Once they come back from the fight to Arena Camp, their wounds heal immediately; they are ready to be sent to the battle again, if you have enough Energy to spend for stepping on to the battle.

If you set your proper army in the Camp, go for beating your fierce opponents: Click/tap “Find Match”, let the system find the best-suited opponent for you amongst all available ready players. The matchmaking system takes care of finding an opponent with the same level as yours: 

⚠ The rest of the Preparation stages, Battlefield features, and Fight scene are all the same as mentioned above.
